Tiffany Haddish (Girls Trip), Bella Thorne (The Babysitter), and entertainment mogul Percy Miller, aka Master P, are set to star in New Orleans crime-thriller Motion, which Haddish will also produce via her She Ready Productions banner. Writer/director Evan Ari Kelman’s twisty feature debut is a gripping thriller about a flawed father’s devotion to his son and the complicated nature of revenge.
Shaun Sanghani’s (The Fallout) SSS Entertainment is also producing and his banner The Syndicate will handle world sales, including at the American Film Market later this fall.
Filming is being lined up for New Orleans this winter. Tim McCann (White Rabbit) is set to direct from an original script written by Percy Miller and Tim Ogletree. Miller is also executive-producing.
Plot details are being kept under wraps, but the film is described as “an ensemble fuelled by colorful characters navigating a journey of wild crimes, set against the backdrop of the underground racing subculture in New Orleans”. Casting continues this fall.
Sanghani will finance through SSS Entertainment and SSS Film Capital alongside Haddish and her She Ready Productions shingle. Bannor Michael Macgregor will executive-produce in association with American Picture House Corporation. Syndicate partners Jeffrey Giles and Michael Lurie are also producing in association with Full Armor Films.
Producer Shaun Sanghani said: “There’s an audience craving films like this and they just aren’t getting made on a larger scale – so we are doing it ourselves. It means a lot to me to do this in my home state of Louisiana w a local legend like Master P and a powerhouse like Tiffany Haddish who has been a champion for this project since day one. This is my third film working with director Tim McCann and another project for me also working with Bella Thorne, both of whose artistry I deeply respect.”
Music producer and former rapper Miller, founder of No Limit Records, has also starred in multiple movies including Foolish and I Got The Hook Up. He stated: “New Orleans is the new Hollywood for the South and is an amazing city to create blockbuster films. As President of Basketball Operations at the University of New Orleans, I’ve had a chance to spend more time in the city and delve into the interests of the culture. My vision is to tie in some top A-list actresses and music artists to create a hot sexy crime thriller. I’m excited to partner up with Shaun, we know he’s going to make a high quality, tech-driven film that is going to be a U.S. and international hit.”
